Ed Balls responds to reports that coalition is to ditch Labour’s pledge to end hospital parking charges

Responding to reports in tomorrow’s newspapers that the government is set to ditch a Labour pledge to end hospital car parking charges over the next three years, Labour leadership contender Ed Balls said:

“As Health Secretary Andy Burnham was right to pledge Labour to end these charges for the families and friends of in-patients. David Cameron’s claim in the election that the NHS would be safe from his cuts now looks like yet another broken promise.

“I hope people will see through the Tory-Lib Dem government’s attempts to pass the buck by making local councils and hospital trusts take the blame for decisions made in Downing Street.”
