Statement on device at East Midlands airport

Following this afternoon’s statement by the Home Secretary on the device found at East Midlands airport yesterday, the Shadow Home Secretary Ed Balls said:

“This clearly constituted a potentially serious threat to our security and we should all pay tribute to our police and intelligence and security services who, working with international colleagues, located and secured the device.

“I spoke to the Home Secretary last night and again today, and the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition have also spoken today, to assure us that the government is taking every action necessary in the face of these threats.

“At this time the responsible thing for oppositions to do is to support those actions and that is what we intend to do.”
