Age UK ‘Falls Champion’

On Friday I met some of the people at The Grove, a Sheltered Housing Scheme, along with Jo Shephard from Age UK Leeds. Age UK were with me to raise awareness for an important campaign which increases awareness for the prevention of elderly people falling.

The campaign aims to reduce the number of people over 65 suffering falls – saving lives and money for both the NHS and the support systems for elderly.

Over a cup of tea and a biscuit I discussed with the elderly residents of The Grove what their concerns are what they know about the ways they can help prevent themselves suffering a fall.

I learnt that even by doing some simple exercise and spotting potential hazards can dramatically reduce the risks of falling. I hope the people at The Grove will sign up to do some of the exercise classes to help prevent them from injuring themselves in the future. I also signed up to be an Age UK’s ‘Falls Champion’ to prevent the elderly from falling.
