‘Hatchlings’ Christmas fayre and photo competition

Last week I was the special guest at the Christmas fayre of Morley’s newest pre-school, which had been delayed by the heavy snow which brought Morley to a standstill.

I was honoured to be given the job of judging a photo whilst at the fayre. The competition included photographs taken by the two and three year olds at the pre-school, as well as a category for older children.

The winners were Joshua McBride (who won the over 8’s category) and Oliver Powell (aged two and a half, who won the 7 and under category).

Caroline and the team at Hatchlings did a fantastic job to rearrange the fayre for this Saturday after last weeks snow. The children’s pictures were excellent; I think we may have found some budding photographers among the group!

Hatchlings pre-school was opened in September by Caroline Stainburn, who runs sessions three mornings a week with two qualified volunteers.

As Secretary of State, I worked hard to make sure parents have access to good quality and affordable local education provision. I know how hard it can be for parents of younger children, so I was glad to hear great things that parents had to say about this brand new pre-school.

Parents can leave children aged two to four at pre-school, which is based at St Mary in the Woods Church on Commercial Street. The sessions are aimed not only at providing childcare, but helping prepare children for nursery or school by working to the national Foundation Stage curriculum.
