Thanks and congratulations on keeping Morley and Outwood Labour

I want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part in our successful campaign to keep Morley and Outwood Labour.

It has been described as one of the hardest fought campaigns in this election – and we couldn’t have won it without your support.

The Tories threw everything they could at us, but the result in Morley and Outwood shows that there is no substitute for dedicated local campaigners working together, speaking to voters, and making the case for our Labour values.

I was delighted that Lisa Mulherin and Jacqui Williams were re-elected to represent us as local Councillors, having fought excellent campaigns. It was a good night for Labour in Leeds – the Labour Group has won 4 seats and now has 48 out of 99 seats and in Wakefield Labour retain control.

So to everyone who stuffed envelopes, canvassed on the phones, pounded the streets, entered data, or cooked to keep the team well-fed: thank you. And to all our members and volunteers – new and old – congratulations! We pulled off something brilliant on Thursday night, and I’m very proud of what we achieved together.

I’m going to be working hard as the first MP for Morley and Outwood – and we’ll be out campaigning again before long. I hope you can join us – it’ll be a tough fight next time too, so the battle starts now!
