Tributes to Wakefield and Morley hero

Today’s funeral service for Lance Corporal David Kirkness was deeply moving but also an uplifting celebration of a remarkable life.

Everyone’s thoughts are with his grieving parents, partner and little daughter, who received the Elizabeth Cross on behalf of her Dad from the Lord Lieutenant.

It is hard to comprehend the depth of their loss. But at the same time I am sure they were deeply proud to hear the tributes to this very brave soldier from his regimental comrades and senior officers.

The eulogies were warm and fulsome, telling of his professionalism, bravery and leadership.

He gave his life saving the lives of othes and in the service of our country to protect our values and our way of life.

There was a huge turnout both inside and outside the Cathedral. And everyone was united both in sadness, and pride in such an outstanding Wakefield and Morley hero.
