Meeting residents on Leadwell Lane

Last Friday I went along with local Councillor Jack Dunn to speak to residents in Leadwell Lane.

Jack has heard from a number of the residents about an unauthorised encampment of travellers just behind their houses.

The encampment is on greenbelt land, so caravans and other temporary structures do not have permission to be there.

The residents told me they have concerns about the noise created by the generators, and the mess that has been left around.

The planning officer from the Council has been clear that it is not acceptable to have caravans or other structures on the land because it is part of the greenbelt.

Other people in the street were telling me that they’d had to remove fencing that didn’t comply with the greenbelt restrictions. I think everyone in our communities should have to play by the same rules, so I’ll be keen to hear the Council’s views about how we can sort this site out and protect our greenbelt.

I know Jack will be following this up again with the Council, and keeping in touch with the residents. I’ve offered to lend any help I can to get this sorted.
