Coffee Morning in Tingley

Thanks to everyone that came along on Saturday morning to get involved in our discussion about local policing in Tingley.

Feeling safe in your home and in your town is really important. That’s why I invited residents along to talk to me about how safe they feel, what they think of local police presence, and if there are any trouble spots we need to work on.

Morley’s neighbourhood policing team is way ahead of the local policing in other areas. The team have been doing some great work, using local knowledge to crack down on problem areas.

I went out with them on ‘Operation Staysafe’ on a Friday night a few weeks back, and I was really impressed with how they work with young people who are found out on the streets late at night. You can find out more here.

It was good to hear that people mostly feel safe in Tingley, and are reassured by a greater police presence. But there was some concern about groups of young people hanging around with nothing to do, and a suggestion that response times could be improved.

I agree that having more activities for young people to do on an evening is a good way to stop groups congregating outside shops and other places. And CCTV could help too. I’ll be in touch with the local policing teams soon to congratulate them on their progress and feedback some of the suggestions.

If you would like to fill out my survey on local policing to let me know your views, or come to a future coffee morning, you can contact me at ed@edballs.com to let me know.
