What a great bunch of people at Schofield Court. When I popped in for a cup of tea this afternoon, Alice, Josephine, Doreen and their fellow residents made me feel really welcome.

After the success of other campaigns such as Gay Pride, Anchor Housing has taken the initiative to create a Grey Pride campaign. They’re calling for a Minister for Older People to represent the need and views of the over 60s. At the moment all the big issues affecting older people are scattered across lots of different departments.

Talking to residents at Schofield Court here in Morley they told me it’s really important there is a strong voice for older people. So whether it’s on issues like social care, the radical changes being proposed to our NHS or cuts in police numbers, I think older people deserve a strong voice to stand up for the issues that matter most to them. Labour have appointed a Shadow Minister for older people but Grey Pride and I are calling on the Government now to do the same.
