Meeting local firms at the FSB Conference in Scarborough

Meeting up with local businesses at the Federation of Small Businesses Conference in Scarborough. Chris Glen, Trevor Moore, Janice Haigh who all run small businesses in this area were calling on politicians to:

• Listen to the concerns of Real-Life Entrepreneurs and champion their cause.
• Represent the interests of Real –Life Entrepreneurs on a national and local level.
• Recognise the many thousands of hard working Entrepreneurs that support the UK economy.
• Support the FSB in their endeavours to get the best deal for Real Life Entrepreneurs.

I was delighted to sign up as a champion for their campaign.

These have been a difficult few months for local businesses. We’ve had depressed consumer and business confidence which have directly affected the profits and performance of small businesses.

The Budget could have used almost £1 billion of unspent funds from the Government’s failed scheme for new businesses used to give a one year national insurance holiday to every small firm taking on extra workers.

The Budget could have brought forward infrastructure investment and cut VAT on home repairs, improvements and maintenance to 5% to support small firms and the construction industry.

The Budget was a huge missed opportunity for local businesses. Small firms, like those from Morley and Outwood I met in Scarborough, need a Government on their side.
