Victory in campaign to get breast screening back to Morley

Some really fantastic news for women in Morley. The NHS breast screening service which used to operate from Morley Sports Centre is to return to Morley in a couple of weeks. A couple of months ago some local women got in touch with me to ask why the local NHS breast screening service, which used to work from the car park at Morley sports centre, seemed to have moved permanently to Middleton. This meant that women without their own transport had to travel on 2 buses to access the service.

I took up their campaign and started to contact organisations to see if there was a way to get the service returned. We met with Asda a couple of weeks back and as well as agreeing to take the unit in their car park for Morley screening sessions, Asda have also paid to have electricity and water connected.

Women across the Morley area will now once again be able to access a breast screening service close by in the specialised unit located in Asda’s car park. I’m delighted that the unit is now in place and will open for screenings in a couple of weeks. Having the unit available locally should mean more women coming forward for screenings which will mean more women benefiting from early detection of any problems. It’s really good news and I’m looking forward to seeing the unit open for business.
