With childminders in East Ardsley to back individual inspections

To mark National Childminders Week  I met up with some local childminders in East Ardsley. They wanted to make sure I knew their views on Government proposals to change the regulation and inspection of childminders. And what they told me was that they, and the parents they work with, like and have confidence in the current system of individual inspection and registration. Julie told me she has small businesses in her own right and should be inspected as such. Both Sue and Julie said they were worried that children’s safety might be put at risk if changes are brought in that would water down the inspection regime.

The National Childminders Association, which Julie and Sue are both membesr of, want to retain individual registration and inspection under the EYFS framework. With childminders being assessed to the same standards of care and learning as nurseries and pre-schools, children who perhaps go to nursery a couple of mornings a week and see their childminder in the afternoon get the same standard of care and learning in each environment.

Having introduced the Early Years Foundation Stage back in 2008 I’m backing the NCMA campaign to keep individual inspections for childminders.
