Whole town turns out to cheer the Olympic Torch through

The whole town seems to have turned out this morning as the Olympic Torch relay came through Morley. At Morley Academy the playing fields were packed with children from schools across the town. And rightly so. Morley Academy was one of only eight schools in the whole country to get the honour of hosting the torch on its journey.

The exciting atmosphere this morning was of course helped along by some great young drummers, lots of flags,  whistles and cheers. Even the weather cheered up for the occasion after nearly a week of dreary rain and a terrible football result last night.

The BBC School Report team were there to capture the event. I met their young reporters from Morley Academy and you can see their interview for yourself here:

Excitement mounted as we saw the outriders and advertising vans pass before the flame itself actually arrived for its tour of the playing fields. The sun came out just as the torch arrived through the gates. There were throngs of people trying to get a glimpse (and the obligatory photo!) and the noise was deafening.

Afterwards everyone was talking about what a great experience for Morley to host the flame. Morley is the most patriotic town in Britain and everyone certainly did the town proud today. It was a privilege to be a part of it.
