Congratulations to local students!

Watch my video, congratulating local students on their results here:

We’ve had great results from local students in their A level results, out today. It can be a stressful time for students, their parents and teachers too but thousands of students across Morley and Outwood have worked hard, done well and will hopefully now get a really good start to adult life.

But things are tougher than they used to be, with university fees up. And for those students who’ll get their GCSE results next week things have got tougher too. The Education Maintenance Allowance has been abolished making things harder for many. Local students have told me about the impact the change has had on them. Many of those who’ve lost the EMA used to use it to pay their bus fares to college or to help with the costs of books or equipment. Now that help has gone.

The Government is letting our young people down. I want to see more being done to open up opportunities for young people, who are the future of our country, to get on in life.

Today’s a day for congratulations though, so well done to all the students getting results today and those who still have a nervous week ahead before the GCSE results next week. Good luck for the future.
