Backing a strong Post Office network

After being contacted by hundreds of local people, including Stanley Post Mistress Marilyn Hirst, on Friday I was at Stanley Post Office to back calls for a strong post office network and the need for services to be retained in post offices to protect the network.

The National Federation of Sub Post Masters is campaigning to protect local Post Office services. The Conservative-led coalition Government is revamping many UK Post Offices at the moment and will soon decide whether people can continue to access DVLA services such as tax discs and driving licences from the Post Office.

Marilyn is concerned changes could reduce the range of services the Post Office can provide. If the Government decides that post offices are no longer the best place for people to get driving licences, tax discs and to receive pensions and benefits it would put many small post offices under threat. I want to see a wide range of services available at Post Office branches so that our Post Office network has a secure long-term future.

People can back the campaign by popping into Stanley Post Office or can get in touch. You can email me or call the office on 0113 253 9466.
