Great news on Morley Police Station

We’ve just had some really good news and victory in our campaign for Morley Police Station. Well over a thousand local people got in touch with me after proposals came out that could have seen the helpdesk opening hours reduced during the week and closed completely on Saturdays. Labour’s candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson came along a few weeks back to back our campaign to keep the station helpdesk open .

I’ve long said that West Yorkshire Police were being put in an impossible position. People who contacted me were extremely concerned about the local impact of massive cuts to local policing budgets that have gone too far, too fast.

This view was typical of many I received. “Great progress has been made by the police and PCSOs over recent years. Cutting the resource will reverse this progress which could be a crime in itself.”

It’s great that local police chiefs and Morley Town Council have heard our campaign, listened to the views of local people and agreed to keep our police station helpdesk open in evenings and weekends.

Thank you to everyone who sent me their views. It has made a real difference.
