Worrying news about local health services

Worrying news has emerged this week about proposals that could mean a reduction in bed capacity in Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust and changed to the structure of our Accident & Emergency services at Pinderfields.

Money is tight across the NHS and the situation has been made worse by a top-down reorganisation of the health service that no one wants and which I’ve always said risked damaging patient services.

Locally, we know the Mid Yorkshire Trust has been struggling for some time to balance their books. But the priority has to be patient care.

I’m extremely concerned about these proposals.  I fear they could add further pressure to the Accident and Emergency Department at Pinderfields and that a further loss of beds could lead to patients and their families having to travel considerable distances.

We need to see some clear and urgent information about the plans and how they will impact on other services across local health services.
