Leeds Stammering Centre doing great work

On Friday I met up with staff and service users at the Leeds Stammering Centre for an update on how the centre is doing.

It was great to hear first-hand from people like Stephen who came to the centre to get some help with an internalised stammer he realised he’d had all his life. Like me, it was only when it started to hinder his promotional progress at work that he sought help. He also agreed with me that it’s really important to talk about your stammer. Stephen told me he’s doing really well in his career since he sought help and has got a new job.

I also met another young man who was having a session with one of the therapists at the centre when I visited. He told me how much is was helping with his confidence.

Trudy and the team do a tremendous job and have helped hundreds of people in the months since the centre opened.

I’m looking forward to going back to the centre again in a few months time to hear more about the work they’re doing with adults and children across the region.

Anyone who wants to find out more should contact the centre stammeringsupportcentre@nhs.net . And of course you can still donate to Action for Stammering Children or Whizz Kidz here
