Launching my summer survey for families at Stanley Children’s Centre

The news this week has been filled with exciting talk of royal babies. But for many parents faced with the long holidays ahead of them, childcare and keeping the kids occupied over the summer, can be one big headache.

I popped into Stanley Children’s Centre last Friday and met with the new Centre Manager, Liz Cooper on her first day in the job. She told me about all the exciting activities they’re laying on for families over the summer. It was also a chance for me to say farewell to Lee Wilson, the outgoing head of the centre, and outgoing Headteacher at Stanley St Peters. He’s done a great job and I’m sure Liz will carry on with great work and support for local families at the Childrens’ Centre.

Every year, I put together a newsletter and survey for families across the area. It has lots of useful information on where to take the kids for a good time in the coming weeks. If you want a copy, you can download it by clicking on the line below.

I’m also keen to find out more about how local families manage childcare pressures, and how family budgets are coping with changes to the tax and benefit system. You can complete my survey online here. I want to see changes introduced that would give ordinary families a helping hand in these tough times. Tax credits have been cut and there have been big increases to childcare costs which have squeezed family budgets still further.

My surveys and newsletters will be going out over the next few weeks and if you’d like a hard copy, please let my office know on 0113 253 9466 or email me
