20 mph zones success for Morley

Great news following our campaign for 20mph zones in Morley. 20mph zones are on their way. Cllr Neil Dawson and I have been calling for improvements to road safety on the streets of Morley. Hundreds of local residents have backed our campaign. We’ve heard this week that Leeds City Council have now authorised the design and implementation of schemes for Morley and the zones should be in place later this year.

Figures from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents show that there is a substantial reduction in deaths and serious injury in 20mph zones. I hope that these new measures will make our streets safer for children to play outside and walk to school.

It will make a particular difference for parents and children travelling to and from Seven Hills and Morley Newland Primary Schools. When we launched our campaign over 200 people were injured and 20 seriously injured or killed in the Morley area every year.

Thank you to everyone who backed our campaign – it made a real difference.
