My Morley Observer Column

On Friday evening, in a packed meeting on Commercial Street on Friday, I heard from Morley residents first-hand about the impact the rising cost of living is having on them. Families cutting back on treats like holidays, pensioners dipping into savings to make ends meet, people even going to bed early to avoid having to put the heating on.

That’s the reality. The rising cost of living is hitting people hard. Working families are on average, £1,600 worse off than they were just a few years ago. And with energy bills rising again this winter, we need to do more support people to make ends meet. I want to see a price freeze on energy bills to give customers a break and to give us time to reform the energy companies. And more action on jobs, housing and childcare costs too.

But we need to look for other ways to save customers money too.  Earlier in the day on Friday, I was joined by the Shadow Energy Secretary, Caroline Flint at local Morley boiler manufacturers, Ravenheat to discuss how else to save families money. Ravenheat are pioneers for research into how to save households money and their ‘energy catcher’ would save the average family over £50 a year on their annual fuel bill.

It’s great that Ravenheat, a local Morley company, are supporting households who want to make their home heating system more efficient and saving money on running costs. To contact Ravenheat to see whether ‘energy catcher’ could help save money call 0113 252 7007.
