A permanent home needed for Morley North Children’s Centre

The brilliant Morley North Children’s Centre in my constituency is currently based temporarily at St Mary’s in the Woods Church on Commercial Street. Manager, Michelle Smith and her team do a great job and the services they provide to working families and under 5s offer a real lifeline. With just a short break on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, their work has been invaluable to my constituents, unfortunately many of whom are experiencing difficulties in supporting their young families, made more difficult with the pressures of the festive season.

But since last summer the centre has operated from temporary rented accommodation. Despite reductions in their budgets, staff have ensured their work continues and services are maintained. Whilst the team continue to show real dedication and commitment, the centre is in need of a permanent home so that they can focus on providing the services local families need. At present resources that could be spent on services are being spent on high rents and staff time spent moving things around.

I’ve written to officers at Leeds City Council to ensure all the options for a permanent site are considered. We have to find a permanent home for the Morley North Children’s Centre so the team can continue their important work.
