My blindfolded walk for Guide Dogs for the Blind

Earlier today I took part in a blindfolded walk thanks to Simba, a trainee guide dog for Guide Dogs for the Blind. It is strangely disconcerting to lose one of your senses and I very quickly became totally reliant on Simba to get me from A to B.

Overcoming obstacles like wheelie bins, lampposts, cars parked on pavements are things that blind and partially sighted people have to deal with every single day. It’s made me think very differently about our streets and roads. But Simba, and wonderful staff at Guide Dogs for the Blind who are training him, did an amazing job and navigated me safely round Morley, including the local Morrisons supermarket on a busy Friday lunchtime.

You can watch my experience for yourself in these three short videos.
