Backing Léonie Mathers for Labour in Sherwood

On Saturday 3 car loads of Labour supporters from Morley and Outwood travelled southwards to Sherwood in the East Midlands, a key battleground seat to back Léonie Mathers’ campaign to become their next Labour MP. As part of our visit, it was an honour for me to meet Cllr Stella Smedley at Dukeries Academy. Stella joined the Labour Party when she was 16 and has served as a County Councillor for over 35 years and a Parish/Town councillor for fifty years.

Stella told some great stories of the Labour leaders and Prime Ministers she’s met over the years. She’s been a Labour Party activist for over half a century and it was a huge honour and privilege to present her with a long service award from the Labour Party. How great too that her family, and so many local Labour Councillors and members were there to celebrate her award with her.
