Campaigning in Stanley for more local 20mph zones

Together with local Councillors Jacqui Williams, Clive Hudson and Matthew Morley I’ve launched a petition to enable residents to show their support for more 20mph zones in Stanley and Lofthouse Gate, in particular around schools and in residential areas.

Parents often raise concerns with me about the number of cars on our roads and the speed they travel. It means children are kept indoors rather than playing outside and often get driven to school rather than walking. With our petition, local Cllrs and I are asking Wakefield Council to introduce 20mph zones outside schools as well as in residential areas.

We know that 20mph zones reduce the overall speed of vehicles, lower accident levels and increase the rate of survival of pedestrians involved in an accident, particularly those involving young pedestrians.

You can send your support for the petition by emailing me here: ed@edballs.com
