Ed speaks at Pakistan flood appeal fundraiser in Nottingham

Today Ed addressed a Pakistan flood appeal fundraising event in Nottingham, hosted by Chris Leslie MP and Mr Raja Munshi Khan, President of the Kashmir International Forum.

In light of the response to the appeal Ed said “the reaction of the British people to the appeal in Pakistan demonstrates the instinct of solidarity, and mutual obligation we have to each other, which is so prominent in British society”.

The partnership between government and individual contributions, in working towards alleviating as much of the pain from the people of Pakistan as possible, is vital – Ed told an audience of assembled Labour party members and representatives of the Pakistani community.

He argued that there were both immediate and long term issues to address as a direct result of the floods in Pakistan. “We must support people’s livelihoods as the floods recede,” he said.

Please consider making a donation to the appeal by going to www.dec.org.uk or calling 0370-60-60-900. You can also text 70707 with the word GIVE to donate £5.
